The
Story Behind ConsciousMedia.com
A Conversation with Founder Jim Jacobson
Jim Jacobson, founder and chief executive officer of
ConsciousMedia.com, has a beautiful silver scale in his office
that was given to him by his grandmother, who made her
transition recently at age 93.
For Jim, this family treasure epitomizes the
essence of CMC’s purpose: balance.
“Our company mission is to help raise planetary
consciousness by helping people raise their own consciousness,”
Jim says. “To me, consciousness means being fully aware of
our thoughts and actions, and taking complete responsibility
for those thoughts and actions. The scale in my office
symbolizes our commitment to balancing our authenticity to our
two primary audiences: the Cultural
Creatives and Wall Street.”
Authenticity means walking your talk, living aligned with
your values. By choosing to utilize the media as a portal for
raising personal and collective consciousness,
ConsciousMedia.com is also “raising the bar in terms of our
actions,” Jim maintains.
As a visible vehicle for conscious change, the company
seeks to meet and exceed the expectations of its customers,
shareholders, vendors and employees.
At the same time, CMC is actively engaged in creating a
highly profitable, well-managed corporation that does
well by doing good. The resources for achieving this
part of the company’s mission include creating The
Conscious Foundation, Inc., a non-profit foundation
dedicated to educational activities that are focused on
planetary improvement. CMC plans to donate five percent of all
pre-tax profits to The Conscious Foundation. CMC will also
host conferences on topics such as spirituality in the
workplace, donate funds to worthy causes such as Habitat for
Humanity, and help fund dolphin research projects.
"Dolphins are helping humans to shift their
consciousness," says Jim. He has a special affinity for
these intelligent marine mammals. He’s swum with dolphins
fifty times in the wild, and says his life has been forever
changed by these extraordinary encounters.

easy to be monk on a mountaintop. The real challenge
is to be a monk in the marketplace—to live the
expression, ‘Be in the world but not of it,’”

“People are seeking a greater sense of connectedness, of
unity, both within themselves and with one another,” Jim
says. “The first source for most people who are in the
throes of personal transformation is the type of
body/mind/spirit books, music and videos ConsciousMedia.com
offers. These best-selling authors are some of the most
powerful teachers on the planet right now. We're here to
facilitate the teachers—we're a catalyst for their work.”
Jim believes passionately in marrying spiritual mastery
with business in creating the new paradigm. “It’s easy to
be monk on a mountaintop. The real challenge is to be a monk
in the marketplace—to live the expression, ‘Be in the
world but not of it,’” Jim says.
“We can lead vibrant, rich lives that allow us to engage
in commerce; build successful, creative enterprises, and
simultaneously bring a level of conscious awareness and
connectedness into our daily lives. That’s what raising
planetary consciousness is all about.”
Jim also believes the Internet is one of God’s greatest
gifts to mankind—the physical manifestation of the
interconnectedness we all share.
“That’s why we’re connecting people all over the
world to these resources,” he says. “Through CMC’s Conscious
Café, people from around the globe can connect with each
other, form friendships, learn, and expand their own
consciousness.
“The Internet is a technological demonstration of a great
conscious matrix in action. The architecture of the Net is
built in such a way that if a message can’t be transmitted
from point A to point B directly, it can go from point A to
point C and then to point B. A message can also be broken up
into bits and reassembled at the site where it’s received.
This is very similar to how people learn about consciousness
and spirituality.”
"Furthermore, there’s a beautiful polarity to
the bits of data. To a computer scientist, it’s expressed as
0’s and 1’s. From the Taoist perspective, it’s yin and
yang. The integration of these apparent opposites is what our
company speaks to. Raising personal and planetary
consciousness is about becoming more whole."
